Delaney, born 2007
Our sweet baby, Delaney Lynn, was born on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 with Transposition of the Great Arteries.
She was not diagnosed with her heart defect until she was about 10 hours old. We sent her to the nursery the night she was born so we could get some rest, and the nurses discovered something was very wrong in the middle of the night. My husband and I were slightly concerned when she had refused to eat after she was born and her lips were slightly bluish, but everyone assured us that newborns just have poor circulation sometimes. Thankfully, our wonderful nurses and doctors knew whatever was wrong with her, they would not be able to fix, so they arranged for her to be flown to a larger hospital in Ft. Wayne for diagnosis. From Ft. Wayne she was then flown to Riley's Hospital for Children in Indianapolis for further tests and her arterial switch procedure.
On August 20th, Delaney had some of the best doctors in the world performing her procedure and after a week or so of breathing complications, she was moved to a Heart Center where we were then released. We got to bring our daughter home on September 6th, after 3 1/2 weeks in the hospital. Delaney is truly one of the happiest, healthiest babies you could ever know. She is the only grand baby on both sides of our family, so she is spoiled rotten by everyone. Her smile lights up every room and she is convinced that the world is her parade and she is the queen! She has just recently been released to only been seen once per year by her cardiologist--wonderful news!
