Gabrielle, born 2008

Gabrielle was born with TOF, PA and VSD. My husband and I got this news at our 20 week ultrasound. We were in total shock and disbelief, it was very hard for us to deal with.

 

Our daughter was born on January 19, 2008. At birth, she was transported to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and at 5 days old, she had her first open heart surgery, to put in a conduit. Her second surgery was in February 2009. This was to put in a larger conduit, since Gabrielle was growing so well. This surgery was cut short because they found that an abscess was laying on her heart. In March of 2009, a third open heart surgery was done, to put in a larger conduit. Gabrielle will need more surgeries for larger conduits as she continues to grow and to close her VSD.

 

We could not be happier with our little girl. She is an extremely active and happy child. We are so proud of her and how well she is doing. She is growing normally and although she is exhibiting some speech delays, she appears to be catching on quickly. She is always smiling and ready to play. My husband and I could not have asked for a better child!
